Culligan uses three cartridge families: EZ-Change, D-Series, and whole-house drop-in cartridges. The fastest way to identify yours is the part number printed on the old cartridge or on the system housing itself.
Find the exact replacement cartridge for your Culligan system and keep your water tasting fresh.
Culligan cartridges fall into three families, and each fits a completely different type of system. Confirming which family applies to your system is the first step before ordering anything.
Table 1. The Three Culligan Cartridge Families

HF-150A, HF-160, HF-360, WH-S200-C |
Point-of-entry sediment |
Your system's model number is printed on the housing itself, the cap, or the old cartridge you're replacing. Check all three locations if one isn't immediately visible.
RC-EZ-1, RC-EZ-3, and RC-EZ-4 all use a twist-on, twist-off mechanism and fit any Culligan EZ-Change system. They're distinguished by filtration level, not by which specific system they were originally sold with.
D-Series cartridges are 2¼-inch diameter under-sink filters that fit systems like the US-600A, distinguished from EZ-Change cartridges by their twist-in housing rather than a twist-on cap design.
Whole-house cartridges are standard drop-in filters that fit point-of-entry housings like the HF-150A and HF-360, sized for sediment reduction across your entire home's water supply rather than a single tap.
Matching your exact system to its correct cartridge family prevents the single most common ordering mistake: buying a cartridge from the wrong family entirely.

Yes. RC-EZ-1, RC-EZ-3, and RC-EZ-4 all fit any EZ-Change system, regardless of which cartridge shipped with it originally. This is the single most useful fact for anyone with an EZ-Change system, since it means you're never locked into the filtration level you started with.
Yes, within the EZ-Change family. You can move from RC-EZ-1 (basic) to RC-EZ-3 (advanced) to RC-EZ-4 (premium) at any time, since all three physically fit the same housing.
Some Culligan cartridges, including certain D-250A listings, are discontinued through specific retail channels while remaining available through others. Check current availability directly before assuming a cartridge is unavailable everywhere; if yours truly isn't available anywhere, a compatible replacement kit is generally available instead.
EZ-Change cartridges twist on and off without tools, and the water supply doesn't need to be shut off first.
No tools are needed.
You don't need to shut off the water supply for the twist-on, twist-off design.
Keep a towel handy for minor drips during the swap.
Locate the cartridge in your EZ-Change housing, whether under-sink, inline icemaker, or RV-mounted.
Twist the old cartridge counterclockwise to release it from the head.
Pull the old cartridge free.
Align the new cartridge with the head fitting.
Twist the new cartridge clockwise until it locks into place.
Check the quick-connect fittings are fully seated if your system uses them.
Flush the system for 3 to 5 minutes after installing a new EZ-Change cartridge, per Culligan's own installation instructions. The first several glasses may run cloudy from trapped air and carbon fines; this clears with continued flushing and isn't a sign of a problem.
D-Series cartridges require the SW-5A housing wrench and shutting off the water supply first, a different procedure from the tool-free EZ-Change swap.
SW-5A filter housing spanner wrench
A bucket or towel for water in the housing
Replacement O-ring if the old one shows wear
Shut off the water supply to the system.
Dispense water from the faucet until flow stops, to relieve pressure in the line.
Use the SW-5A wrench to unscrew the housing.
Remove the old cartridge and inspect the O-ring.
Install the new cartridge, making sure it seats fully against the cap.
Reattach the housing with the wrench, hand-tight plus a small final turn.
Turn on the water supply and check for leaks before leaving the installation.
OR-233 is the correct O-ring for the US-600A, along with SY-2000, SY-2300, SY-2300S, SY-2500, and SY-2650 systems, confirmed against Culligan's own parts documentation. Lubricate the new O-ring lightly before refitting it to help the housing seal properly without over-tightening.
Whole-house cartridges require shutting off the main water line and using the housing's pressure relief valve before opening it.
Locate your system's shutoff valve and close it fully before beginning, then use the pressure relief valve, where present, to release residual pressure in the housing before attempting to open it.
Shut off the main water line to the whole-house system.
Press the pressure relief valve if your housing has one.
Unscrew the housing using the appropriate wrench for your model.
Remove the old cartridge and discard it.
Insert the new cartridge, seating it fully in the housing.
Reattach the housing, hand-tight plus a final turn with the wrench.
Turn on the water supply and check the housing for leaks.
OR-34A fits the HF-150A, HF-160, and HF-360A housings, confirmed against Culligan's own parts listing. Some whole-house housings, like the HF-360B, use a different wrench (SW-2A) than the D-Series SW-5A, so confirm the correct wrench for your specific housing model before starting.
Replacement interval depends entirely on which cartridge family you have, ranging from 3 months to 12 months depending on the specific cartridge.

A noticeable drop in flow, a change in taste, or reduced water pressure are all signs a cartridge needs replacing, even if you haven't reached the rated gallon or month interval yet.
Whole-house cartridges filter far more total water volume across every fixture in your home, which is why several whole-house cartridges are rated for shorter intervals (3 to 4 months) despite much higher gallon capacities than under-sink cartridges.
Most Culligan cartridge issues trace back to one of a handful of causes.
|
Symptom |
Likely Cause |
Fix |
|
Leaking at the housing |
O-ring worn, dry, or misseated |
Replace the O-ring (OR-233 / OR-34A), lubricate, and refit |
|
Housing won't unscrew |
Pressure still in the line |
Shut off the supply, press the pressure relief valve |
|
Slow flow after replacement |
Air in the line or wrong micron rating |
Flush the system; verify the cartridge against Table 2 |
|
Cloudy water |
Trapped air and carbon fines |
Normal; keep flushing |
|
Cartridge won't seat |
Wrong family (D-Series vs. EZ-Change) |
Check Table 2 for the correct cartridge family |
|
No water at all |
Cartridge not fully twisted on |
Reseat the cartridge until it locks |
A leaking housing is almost always the O-ring, not the housing itself, so replacing that small part first saves the cost of a new housing. A cartridge that won't seat at all is frequently the result of buying the wrong family entirely (a D-Series cartridge attempted in an EZ-Change housing, for example), which Table 2 resolves directly.
OR-233 fits US-600A and SY-series systems, OR-34A fits HF-150A/HF-160/HF-360A, and SW-5A is the housing wrench for D-Series systems. Whole-house housings may use a different wrench depending on the specific model, so confirm before ordering.
If the housing itself is cracked or won't seal even with a fresh O-ring, the housing needs replacing, not just the cartridge or O-ring. This is less common than a simple O-ring failure but worth ruling in or out if reseating doesn't resolve a persistent leak.
Comparable cartridges can fit Culligan systems when they're matched precisely to the same family, dimensions, and micron rating as the genuine part.
Yes, when the comparable cartridge is built to the same physical dimensions and family (EZ-Change, D-Series, or whole-house) as your system requires. Fit depends on matching the physical cartridge type, not on brand loyalty to Culligan specifically.
Exact model or family match (EZ-Change, D-Series, or whole-house)
Correct micron rating for your intended use
NSF/ANSI certification matching your genuine cartridge's claims
Rated capacity in gallons and months

Which Culligan filter cartridge do I need?
It depends on your system type. Check whether your system uses a twist-on EZ-Change cartridge, a twist-in D-Series cartridge, or a whole-house drop-in cartridge, then confirm the exact part number against Table 2.
Are RC-EZ-1, RC-EZ-3 and RC-EZ-4 interchangeable?
Yes. All three fit any Culligan EZ-Change system regardless of which cartridge originally shipped with it, so you can switch filtration levels freely.
What cartridge fits a Culligan US-600A?
The Culligan US-600A takes D-Series cartridges, including D-10, D-20A, D-30A, and D-40A. The D-20A ships with the system as standard equipment.
What cartridge fits a Culligan HF-150A or HF-360?
Both use standard whole-house drop-in cartridges, including S1A, P5, P1, CW-F, and CW-MF, depending on the filtration level you need.
How often should I change my Culligan filter?
It depends on the specific cartridge, ranging from 3 months for the D-10 to 12 months for the RC-EZ-1, D-20A, and D-30A. Check Table 3 for your specific cartridge's rated interval.
Do I need to turn off the water to change a Culligan cartridge?
Not for EZ-Change cartridges, which twist on and off without a water shutoff. D-Series and whole-house cartridges do require shutting off the water supply first.
Do comparable cartridges work in Culligan systems?
Yes, when they're matched to the correct family, dimensions, and certification. Verify the exact model match, micron rating, and NSF/ANSI certification before buying a comparable cartridge instead of the genuine part.
