The Pentek P25-20 is a 25-micron spun polypropylene sediment filter cartridge designed for Big Blue-style whole house filter housings. Its 25-micron rating effectively captures sand, silt, rust flakes, scale particles, and other coarse sediment from your incoming water supply. This makes it an ideal pre-filter to protect downstream filtration equipment, appliances, and plumbing fixtures throughout your home.

The Pentek P25-20 measures 20 inches in length with a 4.5-inch outer diameter, making it compatible with standard 20" Big Blue whole house filter housings. It features a true graded-density construction with a 2.7-inch inner diameter and operates within a temperature range of 40°F to 125°F (4.4°C to 51.7°C). The maximum operating pressure is 125 psi with a recommended change-out pressure differential of 35 psi.

The Pentek P25-20 should typically be replaced every 3 to 6 months under average residential use, though actual lifespan depends on your water's sediment load and daily household consumption. Homes on well water or with high sediment content may need replacement every 2 to 3 months, while homes on clean municipal water may reach the full 6-month interval. Replace the cartridge immediately if you notice reduced water pressure or a pressure drop exceeding 35 psi across the housing.

The Pentek P25-20 is constructed from 100% pure polypropylene fibers with no binders, adhesives, or surfactants, and the materials comply with FDA standards (Title 21 of the CFR) for food contact applications. The true graded-density structure traps larger particles on the outer layers and progressively finer particles toward the core, maximizing dirt-holding capacity and extending service life compared to standard string-wound or melt-blown cartridges.

The Pentek P25-20 specifically targets mechanical sediment including sand, silt, rust, dirt, loose scale, and other suspended particles 25 microns and larger. It does not remove chlorine, chemicals, taste, odor, or dissolved contaminants — for those, pair it with a carbon block or carbon filter stage in a multi-stage whole house system. As a dedicated sediment pre-filter, the P25-20 extends the life of downstream carbon filters, water softeners, UV systems, and household appliances by preventing premature clogging from particulate matter.
