The Pentek CBC-BB is a carbon block filter with a 0.5-micron nominal rating. This ultra-fine filtration makes it exceptionally effective at reducing cysts such as Cryptosporidium and Giardia, along with chlorine taste and odor, VOCs, and fine sediment. Its tight micron rating sets it apart from standard carbon filters that typically only reach 5–10 microns.

The Pentek CBC-BB is tested and certified to NSF/ANSI Standard 42 for chlorine taste and odor reduction and NSF/ANSI Standard 53 for cyst reduction (Cryptosporidium and Giardia). It also reduces chemicals like lindane, atrazine, and other VOCs through its solid extruded carbon block construction, which prevents channeling and bypass common in loose granular carbon filters.

The Pentek CBC-BB has a rated filtration life of 20,000 gallons or approximately 6 months, whichever comes first, when operated at its recommended service flow rate of 4 GPM. Households with heavy water usage, higher chlorine levels, or significant sediment should plan to replace it sooner to maintain optimal flow and contaminant reduction performance.

The Pentek CBC-BB measures 9-3/4" in length with a 4-1/2" outer diameter, making it designed specifically for Big Blue style whole house filter housings. It fits Pentek 20BB, 150233, and other standard 10" x 4.5" heavy-duty housings, delivering whole-house filtration at up to 4 GPM with a maximum operating temperature of 82°F (28°C).

The Pentek CBC-BB is primarily designed for treated municipal water to polish out chlorine, cysts, and chemical contaminants. For well water, it is recommended to install a sediment pre-filter upstream of the CBC-BB to prevent premature clogging, since untreated well water often contains iron, sand, and silt that can shorten the life of the 0.5-micron carbon block.
