GSG-CYA-1.5
1.5 lb bag for high levels of CYA and/or large pools over 10,000 gallons
Saves time, money, and water by reducing CYA levels without the need to drain your pool.
For best results run the pool pump 24 hours a day, CYA levels will drop by about 10 ppm per week.
Fits inside pool skimmer basket to reduce CYA levels in your pool.
GreenStory Global's CYA remover is the easiest way to end chlorine lock without needing to drain your pool. Simply drop the pouch into your pool skimmer and let it do all the work. The CYA remover pouch works by adsorbing the CYA out of the water as it filters through the pouch. It works at any temperature and will reduce the CYA by around 10ppm per week without any other impact on pool chemistry. GreenStory Global CYA remover is made in the USA. Use 1 lb. bags for general maintenance and small pools, and 1.5 lb. bags for very high levels of CYA or larger pools.
The GSG-CYA-1.5 by Gulfstream Group is a specialty pool water treatment designed to selectively reduce cyanuric acid (CYA) levels in swimming pool water without the need to drain and refill the pool. Unlike dilution methods, this 1.5-lb single-dose treatment chemically binds with excess cyanuric acid, allowing it to be filtered out through your pool’s existing sand, cartridge, or DE filter system. It’s an ideal solution for pools suffering from "chlorine lock" caused by CYA buildup above 100 ppm.
How much cyanuric acid can one bottle of GSG-CYA-1.5 remove?A single 1.5-lb bottle of GSG-CYA-1.5 is formulated to treat approximately 20,000 gallons of pool water and can reduce cyanuric acid levels by roughly 50 ppm per application. For pools with CYA levels exceeding 100 ppm or larger pool volumes, multiple bottles may be required. Always test your CYA levels before and 48–72 hours after treatment to determine if a follow-up dose is needed to reach the ideal 30–50 ppm range.
How do I apply the GSG-CYA-1.5 Cyanuric Acid Remover to my pool?To apply GSG-CYA-1.5, first test and record your current cyanuric acid level. Ensure your pool filter is clean and fully operational, then turn on the pump for continuous circulation. Shake the bottle well and slowly pour the entire contents evenly around the perimeter of the pool while the pump runs. Run the filter continuously for 48–72 hours, then backwash or clean the filter thoroughly. Retest CYA levels and repeat if necessary. Avoid swimming for at least 30 minutes after application.
Is GSG-CYA-1.5 safe for all pool surfaces and filter types?Yes, GSG-CYA-1.5 is safe for use with vinyl, fiberglass, plaster, and gunite pool surfaces. It is compatible with sand, cartridge, and DE (diatomaceous earth) filter systems. However, because the product binds cyanuric acid into a filterable form, your filter will capture the precipitate, so a thorough backwash or cartridge cleaning is required after treatment. Do not mix GSG-CYA-1.5 directly with other pool chemicals, and store in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight.
Why choose GSG-CYA-1.5 instead of draining and refilling my pool?Draining a pool to dilute high cyanuric acid levels wastes thousands of gallons of water, increases utility costs, and can risk structural damage to vinyl liners or plaster surfaces due to hydrostatic pressure. GSG-CYA-1.5 offers a water-saving, cost-effective alternative that restores chlorine effectiveness, eliminates chlorine lock, and brings CYA back into the ideal 30–50 ppm range — all without interrupting your swimming season or requiring a full pool drain.
CYA (Cyanuric acid) is a chlorine stabilizer and buffer commonly used to maintain chlorine levels in swimming pools, and some stabilized chlorine tablets like Trichlor and Dichlor tablets have CYA mixed directly in with the chlorine. This can become a problem if the CYA level rises above the 30-50 ppm as too much CYA will prevent chlorine from effectively sanitizing the water leading to an increase in bacteria, algae, and cloudiness of the water.
Historically the most effective way to reduce the level of CYA in your pool was simply to drain the pool halfway or more and fill it back up to dilute the concentration of CYA remaining. This could be a costly and time consuming process, and some states will even ban refilling pools due drought conditions making it almost impossible to correct elevated CYA levels. GreenStory Global's CYA remover uses a special filtration resin to remove CYA from the water without needing to drain the pool.
