The Tier1 KDF55-10 is a 10-inch whole house replacement filter cartridge featuring KDF-55 media combined with high-quality granular activated carbon (GAC). The KDF-55 (Kinetic Degradation Fluxion) media uses a redox (oxidation-reduction) process to reduce chlorine, water-soluble heavy metals like lead and mercury, hydrogen sulfide, iron, and inhibits the growth of bacteria, algae, and fungi inside the cartridge. This makes it ideal for treating chlorinated municipal water at the point of entry to your home.

The Tier1 KDF55-10 cartridge measures 9.75 inches in length by 2.75 inches in outer diameter, making it compatible with most standard 10-inch Big Blue-style whole house housings. It has a service life of approximately 6 months or up to 20,000 gallons, whichever comes first. Actual life depends on incoming water quality, sediment levels, and household usage. For best results, pair it with a Tier1 sediment pre-filter to extend its lifespan.

The Tier1 KDF55-10 has a 5-micron nominal filtration rating, which captures fine sediment, rust, and dirt particles while still allowing a strong flow rate of up to 5 gallons per minute (GPM). This balance ensures effective contaminant reduction without significantly impacting household water pressure, making it suitable for showers, appliances, and faucets throughout the home.

The Tier1 KDF55-10 is manufactured from components tested and certified to NSF/ANSI Standard 42 for materials safety and chlorine, taste, and odor reduction. The KDF-55 media itself is NSF/ANSI 42 and 61 certified. It effectively reduces free chlorine (up to 99%), heavy metals including lead and mercury, hydrogen sulfide (rotten egg smell), iron, scale, and inhibits microbiological growth within the cartridge housing.

To install the KDF55-10, shut off the main water supply and relieve pressure by opening a downstream faucet. Unscrew the filter housing sump, remove the old cartridge, and clean the housing with mild soap. Insert the new Tier1 KDF55-10 cartridge vertically, ensuring the O-ring is properly seated and lubricated with food-grade silicone. Hand-tighten the sump, slowly turn the water back on, and flush the system for 5–10 minutes to remove any carbon fines before use. Replace every 6 months or 20,000 gallons for optimal performance.
