The 48,000 Grain Water Softener Combo Bundle by Tier1 is here to help alleviate dry skin, hair, and scaling pipes due to hard water, and provide fresh, clean filtered water to your entire 3-4 bathroom home. Tier1 Water Softeners feature a No-Maintenance ceramic disk valve that doesn't need annual maintenance like piston, seal and spacer valves. The efficient metered valve regenerates only when you need it and the simple programming options give you control over the full regeneration. The Softener & Chlorine Combos pair our excellent softener with a whole house filtration system that uses acid washed coconut shell carbon to effectively remove unwanted taste and orders, chlorine, TCE, PCE, THM's, Phenols, detergents and the option to upgrade to a catalytic version of the carbon which provides improved performance and the ability to remove chloramines and hydrogen sulfide. Both systems come in durable reinforced FRP tanks filled with Quality filtration media. The softener contains high capacity 8% cross linked cation exchange resin, and the carbon media is certified to ANSI/NSF Standard 61, and is Prop. 65 compliant for drinking water applications. Tier1 Softener Combos are a complete solution to whole house filtration.

This bundle includes the Tier1 48,000 grain capacity digital metered water softener paired with an Enhanced Performance (EP) chloramine reduction pre-filter system rated for 450,000 gallons. The softener uses high-capacity ion exchange resin to remove hardness minerals (calcium and magnesium), while the EP cartridge specifically targets chloramine, chlorine, taste, and odor before water enters the softener—protecting the resin bed and extending its service life.
How does the Tier1 chloramine reduction system differ from a standard chlorine filter?Unlike standard carbon filters that primarily target free chlorine, the Tier1 Enhanced Performance (EP) cartridge in this bundle uses a specialized catalytic carbon media engineered to break down chloramine—a more stable disinfectant formed by combining chlorine with ammonia. Chloramine is tougher to remove than chlorine and can degrade standard softener resin over time, which is why this bundle pairs catalytic carbon with the 48,000 grain softener for complete whole-home protection.
What is the capacity and service life of the Tier1 48,000 grain softener and its EP filter? The softener is rated for 48,000 grains of hardness removal, making it suitable for households of 4–6 people with moderate to very hard water. The bundled Enhanced Performance chloramine reduction filter is rated for up to 450,000 gallons or approximately 3 years of service under normal municipal water conditions—whichever comes first. The digital metered control valve regenerates only when needed, conserving salt and water.
What type of salt should I use and how often will the Tier1 softener regenerate?Tier1 recommends using high-purity solar salt pellets, evaporated salt pellets, or potassium chloride for best performance with this softener. Because the unit features a demand-initiated metered regeneration valve, it only regenerates after measuring actual gallons used—typically every 7–14 days for a family of four, depending on water hardness and usage. This is significantly more efficient than timer-based softeners.
Does this Tier1 bundle require professional installation and what maintenance is needed? The Tier1 48,000 grain softener and chloramine reduction bundle is designed for DIY installation with standard 1" NPT plumbing connections, a nearby drain, and a 120V outlet—though many homeowners hire a plumber for the initial setup. Routine maintenance is minimal: refill the brine tank with salt as needed (check monthly), replace the EP chloramine cartridge every 450,000 gallons or 3 years, and periodically clean the brine tank every 1–2 years to prevent salt bridging.
