GreenStory Global's CYA remover is the easiest way to end chlorine lock without needing to drain your pool. Simply drop the pouch into your pool skimmer and let it do all the work. The CYA remover pouch works by adsorbing the CYA out of the water as it filters through the pouch. It works at any temperature and will reduce the CYA by around 10ppm per week without any other impact on pool chemistry. GreenStory Global CYA remover is made in the USA. Use 1 lb. bags for general maintenance and small pools up to 10,000 gallons, and 1.5 lb. bags for very high levels of CYA or larger pools.
The GSG CYA 1.0 is a specialized pool water treatment product designed to selectively remove cyanuric acid (CYA), also known as pool stabilizer or conditioner, from pool water without the need to drain and refill. When CYA levels exceed 50 ppm, chlorine effectiveness is significantly reduced. The GSG CYA 1.0 formula chemically binds with excess cyanuric acid molecules so they can be filtered out, restoring your chlorine's sanitizing power and bringing CYA levels back into the ideal 30β50 ppm range.
How much GSG CYA 1.0 do I need for my pool? One bottle of GSG CYA 1.0 treats approximately 20,000 gallons of pool water and is designed to reduce cyanuric acid levels by up to 50 ppm per treatment. For larger pools or higher CYA concentrations (often exceeding 100 ppm after seasons of stabilized chlorine use), multiple bottles may be required. Always test your pool's CYA level before and after treatment with a reliable test kit to determine the correct dosage for your specific pool volume.
How do I apply the GSG CYA 1.0 to my pool? Before application, ensure your pool filter is clean and the pump is running for continuous circulation. Shake the GSG CYA 1.0 bottle thoroughly, then slowly pour the product directly into the pool water around the perimeter. Run the pump continuously for 24β48 hours after application to allow the product to bind with the cyanuric acid. You may notice cloudiness during this process β this is normal as the CYA is being captured. Backwash or clean your filter afterward to remove the collected residue, and retest CYA levels to confirm reduction.
Is the GSG CYA 1.0 safe for all pool types and surfaces?Yes, the GSG CYA 1.0 Cyanuric Acid Remover is formulated to be safe for use in all pool types, including vinyl liner, fiberglass, plaster, and gunite pools. It is compatible with chlorine, saltwater, and bromine sanitation systems. However, it should not be mixed directly with other pool chemicals before application, and swimmers should wait until the water clears and CYA levels are retested before resuming use. Always store the product in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight.
When should I use the GSG CYA 1.0 instead of draining my pool?Draining and refilling a pool to reduce cyanuric acid wastes thousands of gallons of water, increases utility costs, and can stress pool surfaces β especially in regions with water restrictions or hard fill water. The GSG CYA 1.0 is the ideal alternative when your CYA levels test above 70β100 ppm and chlorine efficacy drops noticeably. It's particularly valuable for pool owners in drought-prone areas, those with plaster or fiberglass finishes that shouldn't be fully drained, and anyone seeking a quicker, eco-friendlier solution to over-stabilized water.
CYA (Cyanuric acid) is a chlorine stabilizer and buffer commonly used to maintain chlorine levels in swimming pools, and some stabilized chlorine tablets like Trichlor and Dichlor tablets have CYA mixed directly in with the chlorine. This can become a problem if the CYA level rises above the 30-50 ppm as too much CYA will prevent chlorine from effectively sanitizing the water leading to an increase in bacteria, algae, and cloudiness of the water.
Historically the most effective way to reduce the level of CYA in your pool was simply to drain the pool halfway or more and fill it back up to dilute the concentration of CYA remaining. This could be a costly and time consuming process, and some states will even ban refilling pools due drought conditions making it almost impossible to correct elevated CYA levels. GreenStory Global's CYA remover uses a special filtration resin to remove CYA from the water without needing to drain the pool.
