The Pentek RFFE10-BB is specifically engineered to reduce dissolved (ferrous) iron from well water and municipal water supplies. It utilizes a specialty Filox-R media that oxidizes soluble iron into an insoluble form, which is then trapped within the cartridge. This helps prevent rust-colored staining on fixtures, laundry, and appliances. Note that this cartridge is designed for iron reduction and does not remove chlorine, sediment, or taste and odor—for those, a pre-filter or separate carbon stage is recommended.

The Pentek RFFE10-BB has a nominal micron rating suitable for capturing oxidized iron particles and operates effectively at flow rates up to 7 GPM. Its service life is typically rated for approximately 6 months or up to 15,000 gallons, depending on your incoming iron concentration and overall water usage. For best performance, Pentek recommends replacing the cartridge every 6 months or sooner if you notice reduced flow or returning iron staining.

The Pentek RFFE10-BB measures 10 inches in length by 4.5 inches in diameter, making it a standard Big Blue (BB) size cartridge. It fits Pentek Big Blue housings such as the 10" BB series, as well as other compatible whole-house filter housings with the same dimensions. Always confirm your housing's internal specifications before installation to ensure a proper seal.

The RFFE10-BB operates within a temperature range of 40°F to 100°F (4.4°C to 37.8°C) and a maximum pressure of 125 psi. It requires an incoming water pH between 6.5 and 9.0 for optimal iron oxidation performance. The cartridge is best suited for water supplies with iron levels up to 3 ppm—higher iron concentrations may require pre-treatment or more frequent cartridge replacement.

Before installation, shut off the water supply and depressurize your Big Blue housing. Insert the RFFE10-BB cartridge into the housing, ensuring it is seated correctly on the standpipe. After securing the housing, slowly turn the water back on and allow the system to flush for 5–10 minutes to remove any fine media particles and air from the cartridge. Initial discharge may appear dark—this is normal and will clear with flushing. Once the water runs clear, the RFFE10-BB is ready to deliver iron-reduced water throughout your home.
