The 48,000 Grain Water Softener Combo Bundle by Tier1 is here to help alleviate dry skin, hair, and scaling pipes due to hard water, and provide fresh, clean filtered water to your entire 3-4 bathroom home. Tier1 Water Softeners feature a No-Maintenance ceramic disk valve that doesn't need annual maintenance like piston, seal and spacer valves. The efficient metered valve regenerates only when you need it and the simple programming options give you control over the full regeneration. The Softener & Chlorine Combos pair our excellent softener with a whole house filtration system that uses acid washed coconut shell carbon to effectively remove unwanted taste and orders, chlorine, TCE, PCE, THM's, Phenols, detergents and the option to upgrade to a catalytic version of the carbon which provides improved performance and the ability to remove chloramines and hydrogen sulfide. Both systems come in durable reinforced FRP tanks filled with Quality filtration media. The softener contains high capacity 8% cross linked cation exchange resin, and the carbon media is certified to ANSI/NSF Standard 61, and is Prop. 65 compliant for drinking water applications. Tier1 Softener Combos are a complete solution to whole house filtration.

This bundle combines the Tier1 48,000 grain capacity digital water softener with an inline chlorine reduction pre-filter system rated for 450,000 gallons of clean, fresh water. The softener uses premium high-capacity ion exchange resin to remove hardness minerals (calcium and magnesium), while the coconut shell carbon chlorine reduction tank treats incoming water before it reaches the resin bed—protecting the resin from chlorine damage and extending the softener's service life. The bundle is designed for households of 4–6+ people with medium to high water hardness.
How long does the 450,000 gallon chlorine reduction filter last, and when should the softener resin be replaced? The Tier1 chlorine reduction tank in this bundle is rated to treat up to 450,000 gallons of water, which typically translates to 5–7 years of service for an average family before the carbon media needs replacement. The 48,000 grain softener resin, when protected by the chlorine pre-filter, can last 10–15 years. The softener itself regenerates automatically based on your programmed water usage—no filter cartridge changes are required between regenerations, only periodic salt refills (standard sodium chloride or potassium chloride pellets).
What size home and water hardness level is the Tier1 48,000 grain softener designed for?The 48,000 grain capacity is ideal for households of 4–6 people with water hardness between 10–75 grains per gallon (GPG). It delivers a service flow rate suitable for homes with 3–4 bathrooms. To size correctly, multiply your household size by 75 gallons per person per day, then multiply by your water hardness in GPG to determine daily grain removal needs. For very hard water (over 75 GPG) or larger households, consider Tier1's higher-capacity models.
Does the Tier1 chlorine reduction bundle require professional installation, and what are the plumbing requirements? The Tier1 48,000 grain softener bundle can be installed as a DIY project by homeowners with intermediate plumbing skills, or by a licensed plumber. Installation requires 1" NPT inlet/outlet connections, a nearby drain line for regeneration discharge, and a 110V electrical outlet for the digital control valve. The chlorine reduction tank is installed upstream (before) the softener on the main water line after the main shut-off valve. Bypass valves are included so you can isolate the system for maintenance without disrupting household water service.
How does the Tier1 digital metered control valve improve efficiency compared to timer-based softeners? The Tier1 softener features a digital on-demand metered control valve that tracks actual water usage and only initiates regeneration when the resin bed reaches capacity—rather than regenerating on a fixed schedule. This saves salt, water, and electricity compared to older timer-based units. Typical regeneration uses about 8–10 pounds of salt and 40–50 gallons of water per cycle, and the unit stores reserve capacity to ensure soft water is always available, even during a regeneration cycle initiated overnight.
