The Pentek BBFS-22 is a complete Big Blue dual-stage whole house filtration system that includes two heavy-duty 20" Big Blue filter housings (Pentek Big Blue 20" x 4.5"), a mounting bracket, a housing wrench, pressure relief buttons, and pre-loaded filter cartridges. The system is designed for 1" FNPT inlet/outlet connections and handles high flow rates up to 15 GPM, making it ideal for whole-house sediment and chlorine taste/odor reduction.

The Pentek BBFS-22 uses a two-stage filtration process. The first stage features a Pentek P5-20BB 5-micron polypropylene sediment filter that captures dirt, sand, silt, rust, and scale particles. The second stage uses a Pentek C1-20BB 20-micron carbon impregnated cellulose cartridge that reduces chlorine taste and odor, while further polishing the water. Together, these cartridges deliver thorough whole-house filtration down to 5 microns.

The filter cartridges in the Pentek BBFS-22 should be replaced every 3 to 6 months, depending on your household water usage and incoming water quality. The P5-20BB sediment cartridge has a typical capacity suited for whole-house flow rates up to 15 GPM, while the C1-20BB carbon cartridge is rated for approximately 20,000 gallons of chlorine reduction. Homes with well water, heavy sediment, or high chlorine levels may need more frequent cartridge changes to maintain optimal flow and performance.

The Pentek BBFS-22 housings are manufactured from NSF-listed materials and are built to handle operating pressures between 20–90 psi and temperatures from 40°F to 100°F. The Big Blue housings are constructed of high-strength reinforced polypropylene with a glass-filled polypropylene cap to support whole-house installations. With 1" FNPT ports and a 15 GPM maximum flow rate, this system is engineered for robust, point-of-entry (POE) filtration for residential and light commercial applications.

The Pentek BBFS-22 should be installed at the main water line entry point (point-of-entry) after the main shut-off valve, so every faucet, appliance, and fixture in your home receives filtered water. Installation requires 1" FNPT plumbing connections and adequate clearance below the housings (about 24") for cartridge replacement. Regular maintenance includes replacing cartridges every 3–6 months, lubricating the housing O-rings with food-grade silicone during each change, and periodically checking for leaks and pressure consistency to keep the system running at peak efficiency.
