The GE SmartWater GXRTDR is an inline water filter designed to connect directly to the 1/4-inch water supply line feeding your refrigerator, ice maker, or other point-of-use appliances. It uses quick-connect push-in fittings for tool-free installation and provides an extra stage of filtration before water reaches your fridge's internal filter, improving the taste and clarity of drinking water and ice.

The GE SmartWater GXRTDR has a rated filtration life of approximately 1,500 gallons or 6 months, whichever comes first. For households with heavy ice maker use or lower-quality municipal water, you may want to replace it closer to the 6-month mark to maintain optimal flow rate and taste reduction performance.

The GXRTDR features a 20-micron sediment and carbon filtration media that reduces chlorine taste and odor, sediment, rust particles, and sand from your incoming water supply. It is specifically engineered as a pre-filter or standalone ice maker filter, and is not intended to reduce lead, cysts, or VOCs—for those contaminants you would need a filter certified to NSF/ANSI 53 standards.

The GE SmartWater GXRTDR is tested to NSF/ANSI Standard 42 for the reduction of aesthetic chlorine taste and odor. This certification confirms the filter's material safety and its ability to improve water taste. It does not carry NSF/ANSI 53 certification for health-related contaminants like lead or cysts.

Installation is tool-free: shut off the water supply, cut the 1/4-inch supply tubing, and push each end firmly into the quick-connect fittings on either end of the GXRTDR until seated. Be sure to observe the arrow printed on the filter housing, which indicates the correct direction of water flow. Once installed, turn the water back on, check for leaks, and flush approximately 2–3 gallons through the line before using the water or ice.
