The FXHTC GE Smart Water whole house water filter is designed for GE Smart Water heavy duty water filtration systems. The GE FXHTC fits any other brand of water filter housing that uses 9 3/4 inch x 4 1/2 inch filter cartridges.
The GE FXHTC is a 5-micron sediment and carbon wrap whole house filter designed to last up to 3 months or 30,000 gallons, whichever comes first. Its 5-micron rating effectively captures fine sediment, dirt, rust, and sand while the carbon wrap reduces chlorine taste and odor. Actual filter life may vary depending on your household's water quality and usage volume.
What contaminants does the GE FXHTC whole house filter reduce? The GE SmartWater FXHTC is specifically engineered to reduce sediment, sand, silt, rust, and dirt particles down to 5 microns, while its activated carbon wrap helps reduce chlorine taste and odor throughout your entire home's water supply. It treats water at the point of entry, meaning every tap, shower, and appliance benefits from cleaner, better-tasting water. Note: The FXHTC is not certified for lead, VOC, or cyst reduction.
Which whole house filter housings are compatible with the GE FXHTC?The GE FXHTC fits the GE GXWH40L, GXWH35F, and GNWH38S whole house filtration systems. It measures approximately 9-3/4" in height and 4-1/2" in diameter, making it a standard "Big Blue" style replacement cartridge. Always confirm compatibility with your existing housing before installation, and make sure to shut off the water supply and depressurize the system before changing the filter.
Is the GE FXHTC NSF/ANSI certified?Yes, the GE SmartWater FXHTC is tested and certified to NSF/ANSI Standard 42 for the reduction of chlorine taste and odor, as well as NSF/ANSI Standard 372 for lead-free material compliance. These certifications confirm that the filter meets strict industry standards for performance claims and that all wetted components are safe for potable water use throughout your home.
How do I install and maintain the GE FXHTC whole house filter? To install the FXHTC, turn off the main water supply, press the pressure relief button on your housing, unscrew the sump, remove the old cartridge, and insert the new FXHTC with the gasket facing up. Hand-tighten the sump, restore water flow slowly, and flush the system for 3β5 minutes to remove any carbon fines. Replace the FXHTC every 3 months or 30,000 gallons for optimal sediment capture and chlorine reduction performance.
