The Pro Products 2401 Water Test Kit is an at-home water testing solution for homeowners who need to evaluate key water quality parameters quickly and without sending samples to a laboratory. It covers the most commonly problematic minerals and pH conditions found in residential well water.
| Parameter | Why It Matters |
|---|---|
| Iron | Rust staining, metallic taste, clogged fixtures |
| Water hardness | Scale on pipes, appliances, and fixtures |
| pH | Indicates acidic (corrosive) or alkaline water conditions |
Pro Products offers two primary residential water test kits. The 2401 is the foundational kit covering iron, hardness, and pH -- the three parameters most commonly evaluated before selecting a water softener, iron filter, or acid neutralizer. The 2404 kit expands coverage to include hydrogen sulfide (sulfur odor) and manganese, making it the better choice for well water with rotten egg odor or black staining issues.
| Parameter | 2401 Kit | 2404 Kit |
|---|---|---|
| Iron | Yes | Yes |
| Hardness | Yes | Yes |
| pH | Yes | Yes |
| Hydrogen sulfide | No | Yes |
| Manganese | No | Yes |
If you are evaluating water for a softener or neutralizer only, the 2401 is sufficient. If sulfur odor or manganese staining is present, the 2404 provides the additional data you need.
The 2401 kit uses colorimetric testing methods -- reagents or test strips that change color in proportion to contaminant concentration. Results are read visually by comparing the sample against the included color reference chart. No laboratory equipment, no shipping, and no waiting for results.
Well water users evaluating whether to install or upgrade a water softener, acid neutralizer, or iron filter. Also useful for verifying treatment system performance -- testing the water before and after treatment confirms whether the system is working as intended.
This kit does not test for bacteria, lead, nitrates, PFAS, or other health-related contaminants. For comprehensive health-focused water testing, a certified laboratory analysis is recommended in addition to this kit.
