Frequently Asked Questions

What is the Tier1 C1 whole house carbon water filter and what does it replace?

The Tier1 C1 is a comparable replacement for the Pentek C1 whole house carbon filter. It is a 9-3/4" x 2-5/8" standard-size cartridge designed to fit most Big Blue-compatible and standard whole house housings. This carbon-impregnated cellulose cartridge reduces chlorine taste and odor, sediment, rust, and dirt from your entire home's water supply, making it an economical alternative to the OEM Pentek C1.

What is the micron rating and filtration capacity of the Tier1 C1 filter?

The Tier1 C1 features a 5-micron nominal rating, effectively capturing fine sediment along with chlorine taste and odor reduction. It has a service life of approximately 15,000 gallons or up to 3 months, whichever comes first. Replacement timing depends on your household water usage and incoming water quality—homes with higher chlorine levels or sediment may need more frequent replacements.

How often should I replace the Tier1 C1 carbon whole house filter?

For optimal performance, replace your Tier1 C1 every 3 months or after 15,000 gallons of use. Signs that indicate it's time for replacement include a noticeable return of chlorine taste or odor, reduced water pressure throughout the home, or visible discoloration of the cartridge. Consistent replacement ensures your whole house filtration system continues delivering cleaner, better-tasting water to every tap.

Will the Tier1 C1 fit my existing Pentek or standard whole house housing?

Yes, the Tier1 C1 is engineered with standard 9-3/4" x 2-5/8" dimensions, making it compatible with Pentek housings designed for the C1 cartridge as well as most standard-size whole house filter housings from other manufacturers. Always verify your housing's inner cartridge specifications before ordering to ensure a proper fit and seal.

What contaminants does the Tier1 C1 carbon filter reduce?

The Tier1 C1 uses carbon-impregnated cellulose media to reduce chlorine taste and odor, sediment, rust particles, dirt, and other particulates down to 5 microns. This dual-action filtration protects downstream plumbing, appliances, and fixtures while improving the overall taste and smell of water throughout your home. For enhanced contaminant removal like VOCs or heavy metals, consider pairing it with a specialized post-filter.
