The Pentek ChlorPlus-20 is a whole house replacement filter engineered specifically to reduce chloramine (a combined chlorine-ammonia disinfectant increasingly used by municipal water systems) in addition to free chlorine. Unlike standard carbon filters that struggle with chloramine, the ChlorPlus-20 uses a specialized catalytic carbon block media that breaks down chloramine more effectively. It measures 20" x 4.5" (Big Blue size) and fits standard whole house housings of matching dimensions.

The Pentek ChlorPlus-20 has a nominal micron rating of 5 microns, allowing it to reduce sediment, dirt, rust, and silt while simultaneously addressing chlorine and chloramine taste and odor. It supports a service flow rate of up to 8 gallons per minute (GPM), making it suitable for whole-house point-of-entry applications where both particulate and chemical reduction are needed without significantly restricting household water pressure.

The Pentek ChlorPlus-20 has a rated filtration life of up to 100,000 gallons for chlorine reduction, or approximately 6 months of typical whole-house use—whichever comes first. For homes on chloramine-treated municipal water or with higher-than-average water consumption, you may need to replace it closer to the 6-month mark. Visible discoloration, pressure drop, or a return of chlorine taste/odor are all signals it's time for a change.

The ChlorPlus-20 is tested to NSF/ANSI Standard 42 for aesthetic effects, specifically for the reduction of chlorine taste and odor and chloramine. It also reduces sediment, sand, silt, rust particles, and scale particles down to 5 microns. It is not designed to remove lead, fluoride, or microbiological contaminants—for those, you would need a dedicated point-of-use filter with NSF/ANSI 53 or 58 certification downstream.

The ChlorPlus-20 is a 20-inch Big Blue-style filter (20" length x 4.5" diameter) and is compatible with Pentek Big Blue 20" housings as well as other standard 20" x 4.5" whole house filter housings from comparable manufacturers. Always confirm your housing's interior dimensions before ordering, and replace the housing O-ring with food-grade silicone lubricant during each filter change to maintain a leak-free seal.
