The Pro Products KP65N Pot Perm Free Flow is a potassium permanganate-based regenerant designed for use with greensand and catalytic iron filter media. Supplied in a 76-ounce container, it is the standard-size option for residential iron filter systems that use potassium permanganate for periodic media regeneration.

What Potassium Permanganate Does in an Iron Filter

Greensand and some catalytic filter media work by oxidizing dissolved iron, manganese, and hydrogen sulfide on contact, converting these contaminants from dissolved to solid form for removal by the filter bed. Over time, the oxidizing capacity of the media is depleted. Potassium permanganate regeneration recharges the media, restoring its capacity to continue oxidizing and removing these contaminants.

Without regular regeneration, greensand filter performance degrades progressively until the media can no longer effectively oxidize iron and manganese, allowing these contaminants to pass through into the treated water supply.

The KP65N uses a free-flow granular formulation that resists moisture-induced clumping -- a common issue with standard potassium permanganate that can make dispensing difficult and lead to uneven regeneration. Regeneration Procedure
